Smart Use Of FR8Star Brings Success For Drews Parts
The staff at Drews Parts, located in Anderson, Indiana, are parts encyclopedias. “Between the three of us, we have probably 50 years’ worth of knowledge in parts, and it’s not just part numbers,” says owner Kelly Drews. With nearly 30 years in business, they have a wealth of experience, and they make sure someone’s always there to answer the phone to get customers what they need. “Being a used parts distribution center, we have a lot of the parts others don’t have,” says Drews, noting that in addition to selling new and used parts and attachments, the company parts out machines.
Expanding Its Reach
To reach more customers, Drews Parts has advertised on the Fast Track Parts network for around 20 years. The company is also a long-time Machinery Trader and TractorHouse advertiser. “It just always works for us, so we keep advertising with them,” says Drews. Running print ads in the magazines allows the company to list its entire inventory online at MachineryTrader.com and TractorHouse.com, where thousands of buyers browse every day. That parts inventory is also cross-posted on Drews Parts’ Sandhills-hosted website (DrewsParts.com), which Drews says the company has had for around 13 years. The website lists parts, attachments, components, and equipment, as well as dismantled machines.
Success With FR8Star
Drews Parts frequently purchases damaged machines that it breaks down for parts, but first it has to transport the inoperable equipment from the purchase location to its lot. Drews recently had a burnt, undrivable Deere 135C excavator that he needed to move from Louisiana to Indiana, a distance of 841 miles. He decided to put the load on FR8Star and had bids coming within minutes. Out of 14 bids, Drews ended up accepting an all-in bid that was over $2,000 less than what his usual hauler quoted him.
“I found out about FR8Star when I was in Lincoln for the Global Forum and I talked to Russ Dolezal about it,” says Drews. “We had a machine that needed to be picked up, and with freight prices being so high with high fuel prices, we decided to try FR8Star. We moved the machine for a great price and got the machine home in three days.”
“I assisted Kelly with adding the machine, which took about two minutes,” says Russell Dolezal, FR8Star manager. “While we were still on the phone, he had already received three bids. After 24 hours, he had 14 bids from a vetted network of transportation companies.” The hauler Drews had previously used would have had to drive an empty trailer to Louisiana to pick up the machine, Dolezal explains, which costs the hauler time and money, but FR8Star brokers have access to hundreds of carriers and can locate one near the machine’s location and then will find another load near the destination to avoid deadheading to save shippers money. Drews was impressed with the speed of the results. “As soon as we put it out there on the Load Board, within a half hour we had quotes back. FR8Star has people sitting there literally waiting for requests to come up to try and fill their loads. It was very efficient.”
Looking To The Future
Drews Parts is hoping its future is simply more of the same. “We’re just going to keep trying to grow and to keep doing what we’re doing and do it even better,” says Drews.
